Real customer reviews about RJC Roofing Penrith

RJC Roofing Penrith is a roofing company by Richard (or Dickie) Curry, based in Penrith Cumbria. Richard likes to target people who have had storm damage or the elderly, and then do shoddy, unfinished work that often further damages their home. Many customers have paid £5,000-10,000 only to need all the work re-doing again, and causing themselves great stress from having to interact with Richard.

Our aim

Is to prevent anyone else having to go through what we as went through after hiring Richard Curry. It is incredibly stressful, will likely leave you out of pocket and with potentially more damage to your home.

My personal experience of this company was very poor - I would not recommend them.

An update on our stressful fight to reclaim nearly £2000 from this man who thinks it's ok to ignore County Court letters. Avoid !!!!!! This man's roofing business !!!! He put an unqualified man on our roof in January 2023 and because of shoddy workmanship our home was flooded in places unaffected by the initial leak. We have been fighting through the courts to recover £1800 still owing to us. We have had the roof redone by a superb company who were horrified at the state Curry left our roof in. We have had to pay out again to put right his shocking work. He has ignored Court letters and has managed to convince County Court Bailiffs that he has nothing worth that amount for them to recover !!!! It has been a stressful and expensive lesson for us to never trust a tradesman who seems personable and friendly and ask to see their liability insurance which this man doesn't have. Obviously this man thinks it's ok to swindle two pensioners with health problems out of their hard earned money. We are now taking legal advise on the next steps to recovering our money through a debt recovery company

Extremely unhappy with the service. Lack of professionalism, delays, and poor workmanship. After payment, follow-up was almost non-existent, and problems were ignored rather than fixed. This was a stressful experience, and I regret choosing this company.

Initially we thought they had done a good job. Sadly not the case. Nothing but problems and damage caused. Had to involve trading standards and a local councillor and still not resolved.

Denis

Very poor workmanship and extortionate. Long delays to respond to messages (unless concerning payment). Had to hire a new roofer to fix the damages RJC caused.

My experience was not positive. The quality of the work did not meet my expectations, and I was left frustrated with the outcome. I hope the company improves its standards for future customers.

They ripped off my Niece. This firm charged my Niece for just short of £3800 for a new GRP coated roof. She's a young defenceless tiny girl, living on her own. Do not trust these people. Not GRP coated, it's just bare weatherboard with no run off, no gradient to allow the water to run off. Pooling water and leaking badly. Court proceedings imminent.

We had water pouring through our flat roof extension in the winter of 2023. We panicked and rang the first two roofers we found online who had decent reviews on Google. He gave us a quote quickly and was very chatty and pleasant. He did the job and within weeks water was pouring through different parts of the ceiling. He came back and forward doing botched up repairs after refusing to redo the job. We were taking the ceiling down to have it replaced and all the boards and insulation were soaked. I put a really bad review on a few sites where he advertised his business and he came up shouting saying he would sue us we said bring it on. We went to the small claims court he ignored the letters. We then went to the county court and the bailiffs and he managed to persuade the bailiffs that he had nothing worth the £2000 he still owed us. We have had so much stress over it all.

He was DC Roofing when we employed him for my mum's house (he was know as Dickie Curry then). Building Control condemned mums roof and we had to pay another company £10k to correct it. We took him to small claims court and then the Bailiffs, but he has nothing in his name, all in his wife's, so we got no where. He then went to be a limited company, River Valley Roofing, so he wasn't personally liable for any debt. But I see he's dissolved that and is now RJC Roofing.

I tried to fight as much as I could, but it started to take over my life and make me ill so I just backed off.

Richard did our roof some years ago. He never finished the flashing off round the chimney and I kept messaging him to come and finish it. He'd always he was coming but never did. We had our loft converted a few years back so the roof had to come down. Builders said it had been badly done and the chimney work was shocking.

When I mentioned to our great builders who had done the previous work they rolled their eyes.
